Effective July 1, 2020, UnitedHealthcare (UHC) has implemented a new requirement related to testing for Bacterial Vaginosis, Group B Strep, etc.
Per UHC’s Molecular & Genetic Testing Notification policy, the following tests require PRIOR AUTHORIZATION which must be performed from the referring clinicians’ office.
- Candida Species (87481)
- BV Expanded Panel (87801)
- Gardnerella Vaginalis (87511)
- Group B Strep (87652)
- Trichomonas Vaginalis (87661)
This is a UnitedHealthcare (UHC) requirement and affects all laboratories performing these tests. Beacon LBS is managing this process for UHC. If you need assistance or have any questions, please contact Beacon LBS at 800-377-8809 or email@example.com.
In order to continue to provide top quality care to you and your patients, we need your help in following UHC’s new procedure to ensure ProPath is reimbursed for this testing when ordered by your practice for UnitedHealthcare patients. If you do not obtain prior authorization or follow UHC’s guidelines, you may be billed for these tests.
We understand this is an added burden on you and your office staff and we are working with various organizations to try to have this requirement reviewed. We urge your physicians to contact American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) at 800-673-8444 or in writing to P.O. Box 96920, Washington, DC 20024-9998 regarding United’s policy and request their involvement to have the prior authorization requirement removed.
Thank you for your continued support and trust in ProPath for your patients’ pathology needs.
